Our great-grandmother was an amazing woman. And here, one hundred years later, we have her diary.
Take a trip to the past through the eyes of a teen-age girl, and marvel at how the world has changed -
and the many ways it has not.

July 4, 1912 - Thursday

4 Ah! The glorious fourth. Woke about 6:30 A.M. because of a fire-cracker serenade performed under my window. Went to breakfast (after dressing) and met Don with another boy in route to the river. Went myself but did not see him. Went in swimming after lunch and tore a great hole in my new suit. Came home in canoe after supper, and went rest of way in trolley. I was squeezed against an awful pig of a woman.

No, Gwendolyn, he is not warming his hands; he is trying to hypnotize the fire.

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF G.A.H.A. MAHONEY, DECEASED.

P.S. Gus is still missing.

  3. No just the swimming part. Kinda the oppisite, I went to sleep to fireworks! But I did do some little fireworks in the driveway with my cousins. They didn't even go up in the sky though.
